Brace Foundation to sponsor scholarships for children with special needs

As families across Nigeria grapple with rising costs of education and care for children living with disabilities, Brace Foundation has launched a scholarship initiative focused on easing the burden for parents of children with special needs.

The initiative, according to the Foundation, is part of a broader commitment to inclusive development and educational equity.

The Foundation noted that children living with autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, and other neurodevelopmental challenges are often excluded from formal learning due to systemic neglect, financial hardship, or inadequate school infrastructure.

Executive Director of the Foundation, Dr Soibi Godwin-Clark, said: “This programme is about access, dignity, and support.”

“We understand that for many families, the cost of tuition and therapy is overwhelming. We aim to step in and contribute to bridging the gap to ensure that these children do not fall through the cracks.”

The Foundation said that its intervention would not only address short-term financial barriers but also stimulate more serious conversations and commitments around education for children with disabilities in Nigeria.

It said that applications for the scholarships had been opened, pledging transparency and a community-first approach to distribution.
